John Galliano Update: Couple Identified

So the couple that Dior designer John Galliano had allegedly made anti-Sematic remarks to has been id'd as 35 year old Art Historian Geraldine Bloch and her boyfriend, 41 year old Philippe Virgitti. Apparently Galliano, who was found to be over the legal limit, said the woman was an "dirty jew face", "ugly, disgusting whore." Geraldine said that he pulled her hair, said she had ugly eyebrows and cheap thigh boots.

John Galliano is launching a suit against the couple for deformation after being suspended from Dior. Galliano's lawyer is dening the claims that his client has made any racist remarks. Cant wait to see how this turns out.

Getting The Skinny On Pepsi

So the question is, has dieting gone too far? Pepsi debuted their new can design for Diet Pepsi at this year's NYFW. I have a problem with this. They used words like "taller," "attractive," and "stylish" to describe the "skinny" can. I dont wanna sound like a hater, but I dont like the assumption that in order to be taller, attractive and stylish you have to be skinny. I think that Pepsi is putting out there that this is the way you ought to look. And then to debut it at Fashion Week! This new design is in "celebration of beautiful, confident woman." That was in a statement released by Pepsi. Ok, now bare with me because I'm going to the bottom of the ocean on this (in other words, I'm about to go deep). To say that, is to say only skinny, tall women can be beautiful and confident. Here's my thought, this can does NOT and I repeat NOT represent beautiful confident women. This can represents everything worng with society. I am a curvy girl, confidence in not held by what size you are, rather how you see yourself, how you carry yourself. I dont care if you are a size 0, doesnt make you confident. I am not even close to a 0 but I am strong and confident in who I am.

Pepsi is too big of a brand to put such a dangerous message out here. I cant wait to see what kind of hell this new can design is going to raise. Pepsi should be ashamed of theirselves. Boo Pepsi Bye!

America's Next Top Model: Cycle 16

ANTM is back for cycle 16! Wow, it is truly hard to believe I have been watching for that long. In a good way though! The season kicked off kind of different from normal. We didnt get to see contestants chicken walk in heels into a room with Tyra and the J's. Going on and on about their reason for needing to be there. No, instead the contestants were already chosen. The first challenge they all walked a runway over water while inside a bubble. So were on point and others were a HOT mess! Afterwards, the photoshoot. Those with photos were "chosen" and those without, were to "go home". Little did they know, "home" was the new model house. In the end one model went home and the competition begins.

These model hopefuls are all becking for the ultimate in model prizes, a contract with IMG, a spread in Vogue Italia, a spread and cover in Beauty in Vogue and a $100,000 contract with Cover Girl Cosmetics.

***You can catch America's Next Top Model evey Wednesday on the CW***

Profile: Ford Model Robin Harris

This is an interview conducted by my twleve year old protege. She was given an homework assignment to interview someone in the profession she wants to be in when she growns up. She wants to be a model. So thanks to Nancy Tennicott, runway director for Ford Models-Chicago as well Ashley Abboushi and Robin Harris the two models who agreed to do this. Here is Robin's interview:

1. What types of training/classes are required for this job?

The type of training/classes for runway modeling is runway classes. Once you get signed with the agency you are required to attend their runway classes.

2. How long was training for the job/career Model?

Once you get approved from the director of runway, then you are able to go and see clients for runway shows.

1. How many hours do you work?

Typical day of work depends on the client, for informal modeling you can work up to 4 hours, for a runway show you work for 1 hr, for print/catalog modeling you can work a half day for about 5-6 hrs.

2. What is your typical work environment?

Typical work environment is lights, cameras, music, photographers, stylists, makeup artists, dressers, backdrops, shoes, and racks of clothes are all things that may be included in the work environment.

3. Describe a typical day for you?

A typical day for me is coming to a runway location, trying on clothes, doing a runway rehearsal, then lights, cameras, action…I’m on the runway walking the catwalk.J

1. How much money does a beginning model make each year?

It depends on the location and the model that determines how much she or he make in their first year.  If you are in New York then you probably would make more than someone from Atlanta or Chicago.  The average annual income range from 80,000 and up.

2. Do you get paid for overtime or extra hours?

Models do get paid overtime and it depends on the rate for that day.  It can be double the amount of the rate or more.

3. Are there regular raises?

There are no regular raises, just an increase in clients…if a model book every casting/audition she goes on then that would be her raise….

1. Compare employment of a beginner and an advanced model.

The employment of a beginner compared to an advanced model may be slightly different.  The beginner model may have less or few clients depending on how much the Agent “pushes” the model to the clients, and how easy the model fits into the job.  The beginner model may be a great walker and not shy, and work with the advanced model as well.  The advanced model have loyal clients who always book her on all the jobs they have. The advanced model have a loyal client base, whereas the beginner model has to build up her clients, by going to more auditions/castings.

2. How often do you get to work with your boss?

You are your own boss, an the Agent at the  modeling agency is the one who you may answer to.  A model has to treat this business like she is the actual business.

3. How many job options are there for a Model?

The options for a model varies. She can be a hand model, foot model, sports model, lingerie model, high fashion model, print model, cosmetic/beauty campaign model, or go on to do commercials.

Job Skills/Talents/Experience:

1. What are the required job skills for this field?

The required skills for this type of job is first your outward appearance, then your personality, likability, and professionalism.  To be a fashion model you must be 5”9 or taller, thin, great skin, hair, nails, smile.

2. What must be your strong suits to be a Model?

Strong suits is your confidence, if you don’t believe in yourself no one else will.

3. What main talents should you have to be most successful in this field?

Talents depends on the type of model you want to become, so if you want to be a high fashion model, your talent is your walk, and your adjustability to the client…in other words can you transform from being glamorous, to being business like, or energetic..

1. What personality type do you recommend for this field, do you need to be thick skinned?

YOU MUST BE THICK SKINNED! I REPEAT YOU MUST BE THICK SKINNED, for this type of job.  Models don’t get every job they get sent on, they are rejected in person or behind the scenes, so in order to deal with rejection you must be thick skinned. Don’t take everything personal, it may just be what the client wants for that particular job.

3. When did you decide that you really wanted to become a Model?

I decided I really wanted to become a model when I was 12 years old. I always loved glamour, fashion, beauty, and walking on the runway.

1. Is there any dietary in being a Model?

Again you as a professional model are a BUISINESS. So what you eat, to how you treat people, to how you dress, to your daily decisions should be based upon how it will affect your business. Personally some models eat what they want because they are naturally thin, others eat healthy, fruits, veggies, lean meats, and good workout regimen.

2. What is your favorite part about being a Model? What is your least favorite part?

Favorite part of being a model is being able to transform to someone different on the runway or at a photoshoot.

Least part is dealing with difficult clients, always having to eat healthy, and dealing with rejection.

3. What is it like being a Model?

Its fun being a model, but I always like to represent something positive to those who are watching.  Trying on all the clothes, cool makeup, and nice shoes.

4. Why is Modeling important to you?

Modeling is important to me because I can use it as a platform to talk to others about my experience, what its like, and encourage others to become the best at what they love.  I get a chance to talk to young girls about self esteem, confidence, and following their dreams and goals.

Profile: Ford Model Ashley Abboushi

This is an interview conducted by my twleve year old protege. She was given an homework assignment to interview someone in the profession she wants to be in when she growns up. She wants to be a model. So thanks to Nancy Tennicott, runway director for Ford Models-Chicago as well Ashley Abboushi and Robin Harris the two models who agreed to do this. Here is Ashley's interview:

Education & Training:

1. What types of training is required for this job?

None unless they tell you otherwise. Some models may need to take some walking classes for runway or modeling classes to know what works and what doesn’t, what looks good and what doesn’t.

2. What classes did you have to take for the job Model?

None required however the agency offers runway classes and I’ve gone to a couple before.

3. How long was training for the job/career Model?

I started right away, you get better as you practice. The more photo shoots and runway shows you do the more you know what looks good and what doesn’t, the perfect pace and what you need to make sure you’re paying attention to like your hands at all times, how your clothes look etc.

Typical Day:

1. How many hours do you work?

It all depends, we can work either an hour or I’ve had shoots go from 7am to 9pm and some last for days.

2. What is your typical work environment?

Usually always fun, everybody is typically really nice. There is a photographer, a make up artist, hair stylist, clothes stylist and sometimes a photographers assistant.

3. Describe a typical day for you?

You go to a shoot, the agency will tell me if I have to bring anything like some black heels etc. and getting there 15 minutes is always best. You get your hair and make up done and then change, the photographer explains what they want and sometimes shows you examples of images he would like to imitate and then off you go!

1. How much money does a beginning model make each year?

We are paid per job not annually. We have an hourly rate which is different based on the agency.

2. Do you get paid for overtime or extra hours?

Yes, our day rate is for an 8 hour day but if we are there longer we get our hourly rate for the additional hours.

3. Are there regular raises?

I know my hourly rate has increased over the years but I’m not quite sure if it was that the agency raised the rates or if it’s because I have more experience.

1. Compare employment of a beginner and an advanced model.

Typically because you have regular clients and more people in the industry know you, you make more money because you are booked a lot more as apposed to someone who is new.

2. How often do you get to work with your boss?

We are the models, we are private business owners in a way. We are with an agency but they are the agents and only make money when we make money. They get us jobs but initially they work for us. The only boss we really have are the clients, the companies that hire us through the agency and they are almost always at every shoot making sure it is what they want.

3. How many job options are there for a Model?

Lots, it all depends on how much time you can put into it, how serious you are about it and how good you are at your job. If you have a good attitude, a good reputation etc. you will have more opportunities to work.

Job Skills/Talents/Experience:

1. What are the required job skills for this field?

You have to be organized and good with time management, you must have a good positive attitude and hard working because sometimes you are in a work environment that is not ideal - summer things shoot in the winter and vice versa so you may be really cold or really hot and you have to try your best to just stick it out.

2. What must be your strong suits to be a Model?

You have to not let it get to your head. This industry is very superficial, probably the most in the world- it is a profession solely based on looks and appearance. We are supposed to represent the ideal; perfect hair, perfect skin, perfect nails all the time. So as long as you can realize that they are almost unrealistic expectations and you just do the best you can it will be fine. The problem is that some models do unhealthy things to get to our intended look, for example not eating to maintain their weight.

3. What main talents should you have to be most successful in this field?

Any talent is a good talent I think. Each individuals skills are unique and the more skills you have the better it will be as in any job.

1. What personality type do you recommend for this field?

I am very outgoing however a lot of models are either vain or shy. Just a happy median I think is the best, you want the clients to like you, to remember you and to book you again so having a good attitude, being personable is a lot better than being shy in the corner, they’ll forget you in a second.

2. Do you need to be thick skinned?

I think so, like I said it’s all superficial. You need to always be at the top of your game because if you’re not, the agents will tell you. Our average measurements are different from the normal, skinny for a model is much smaller than skinny for an average person so as long as you can do what you can to be the best you in all aspects and not let it get to you when the agency says you are too big it is good but doing whatever you have to do (ex. not eating or smoking) is not safe and not healthy.

3. When did you decide that you really wanted to become a Model?

I have always liked being in pictures and started about 7 years ago. I just graduated college so now is the first time I’m actually modeling full time, throughout the years I would work part time and around my school schedule which is best, a lot of models don’t finish school because they are overwhelmed with the money, the fun and the glory of it but it will come to an end and if you are not prepared for that you will have major problems in the future.

General Questions:

1. Is there any dietary in being a Model?

We have to stay pretty thin, some girls are naturally very skinny even eating whatever they want however, if they eat Mc Donald’s everyday they will have bad skin. I naturally have an athletic body type but still have to workout and eat pretty healthy to remain the measurements that they want me to be and as long as I am doing it in a healthy way that is ok with me.

2. What is your favorite part about being a Model? What is your least favorite part?

I really enjoy it, I’m now traveling the world and working and seeing other countries and cultures which is my favorite thing! It’s a good experience and really fun.

I don’t really like that it takes months to get a paycheck, I don’t like that it is very superficial and that a lot of models act like they are better than everyone else because they are paid based on their looks.

3. What is it like being a Model?

Stressful yet fun! A great experience.

4. Why is Modeling important to you?

It’s something that I truly enjoy doing and I’m lucky enough to have this opportunity that not a lot of people have. It’ll also allows me to make a living and travel the world.

Good luck on your project and if modeling is something you really want to do, I strongly suggest finishing school first! Beauty comes and goes but nobody can ever take away your education. (If you work hard, school will be over before you know it!) :)

Kelly Osbourne's Living in a Material World!!!!

Last month it was announced that former reality star, Kelly Osbourne would be the new face of Material Girl, a rocker chic line created by Lourdes and her material girl mom, Madonna.  Here is a sneak peek at the ad campaign. The series of ads are set to officially appear in the April issues of Cosmo, Seventeen and Teen Vogue.

Beyonce's Black Face

So in honor of the French magazine, L'Officiel Paris's 90th Anniversary and Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, Beyonce decided to go "black face". This was a voluntary decision. She wanted to return to her African roots. Which is fine, except the fact that this already African American female thought she had to paint her face darker to be more "African" is a bit offensive. However it really doesnt surprise me, considering she has been looking a little lighter in her L'Oreal commercials.

You get no props for this Beyonce. I am all for paying homage to the motherland, but black face has always been offensive to the black community. I understand having fun with fashion, being fashion forward, being edgy. But this is none of the three. Boo Beyonce Bye!

John Galliano Suspended from Christian Dior

Christian Dior designer John Galliano has been suspended from his position with the design house pending the out come of an investigation involving assault and anit-Semitic remarks by John. According to reports, Galliano got into an argument with a couple in Paris. Sidney Toledano, Chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, said “Christian Dior has an unequivocal zero tolerance policy regarding anti-Semitism and racism.”

I don’t know what has flown up the fashionable rear ends of these designers. First Oscar de la Renta flies off the handle about First Lady Michelle Obama’s wardrobe and now John Galliano is being investigated for assault and anti-Semitic remarks. What happened to the days when designers were simply known for their clothing?
