American designer Oscar de la Renta has been making his opinion known in regards to the First Lady, Michelle Obama’s gown choice when she and President Barack Obama met with Chinese President Hu Jinato. First Lady wore a beautiful red gown with black detail designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Well Mr. de la Renta was none too happy. The color red is considered lucky in China. But because the purpose of the state dinner was to promote American-Chinese trade, Oscar didn’t think it was ok for her to wear a European designer.
He made a statement that he wasn’t talking about his clothes, says he’s old he doesn’t need it as much. Saying that there are young people who need it more. Thought: maybe he should make that same speech everytime someone important is wearing an Oscar de la Renta. I’m sure that the fact that he has dressed every first lady, but Michelle, has nothing to do with this rant. I say GET OVER IT Oscar. Because at this rate, you wont dress Michelle at all.
Bottom line is she looked amazing! Props to Sarah Burton for designing such an amazing gown. Michelle has been something like a fashion icon since Barack won the election. She always looks great!
