Maria Caro Commits Suicide Months After Daughter's Death

Maria Caro, the mother of the late Anorexic model Isabelle Caro, has committed suicide. She had been plagued with tremendous guilt over the death of her daughter in November of last year, according to her husband Christian Caro.

Media coverage over her daughter’s death had begun to take its toll.

Isabelle Caro was known for her provocative, nude anti-anorexic campaign in 2007. She weighed just 68 pounds at the time. Even though the message was anti-anorexia, she was also featured on a number of pro-anorexia websites as positive example of how to be thin.

Isabelle had stated that her anorexia started at just 13 years old and was due in part to her mother’s reluctance to see her grow up. In an interview with CBS news, she said her mother “spent her time measuring my height. She wouldn’t let me go outside because she heard fresh air makes children grow.”

According to Christian Caro, who was Isabelle’s stepfather, Maria took her to the hospital in November despite the fact the Isabelle didn’t want to go. It was during this hospitalization that Isabelle died. Christian claims it was medical neglect that led to the death of his stepdaughter.
