Texas Collection Pt. 1

What I like about the first half of this collection, it forced me to look pass the color in the bottle. My eyes are naturally attracted to shimmers and glitters, shiny shades. The first half of this collection, although does offer shimmers, also has some cremes. Looking at the shades prior to putting them on, I just knew I was not going to like them. I was a bit surprised!

The first half of the collection is half cremes and half shimmers. Really giving props to Texas. If I had to pick a favorite from this collection it would definitely be IT'S TOTALLY FORT WORTH IT.  As you will see, it is a really pretty silver shimmer and I think it looks amazing on white tips.

Each swatch is 2 coats, except for AUSTIN-TATIOUS TURQUOISE, it has 3 coats.

**DISCLAIMER- this collection was sent to me by the PR company for a unbiased review. **

The collection is now available for purchase at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillards, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret and ULTA. They retail for $8.50($10.95 CAN).

Texas Collection Pt. 2

This is the second half of the OPI Texas Collection. These are the new sorbet finishes.  They are semi translucent. They have an incredible shine. I didn't use a top coat at all. You know how they have lip stains, this is what these shades remind me of. Kind of like a stain for your nails. I do have a favorite from this collection, I am loving me some Too Hot Pink To Hold Em.  I am really feeling that color. I love OPI because they are always on top of the nail polish game. Beautiful colors and some serious staying power. In fact I am wearing Too Hot Pink To Hold Em on my toes, I have had it on for some weeks and let me tell you, it's still looking good.

Ok, so per OPI to apply the sorbet colors you are to all ten fingers without doubling up, start from the pinky of one hand and ending on the pinky finger of the other. Wait until it drys and apply a second coat. Each of these swatches have 2 coats.

Teenage Dream

Ok, I am revamping Beautifully Polished Up. To tell you the truth, I was going back and fourth but I figured if I want my blog to be taken serious then I need to put in the time to make it the best I know how.

Now on to the first collection on the new blog. This is the Katy Perry Collection from OPI. I have had this collection for a little bit. It is courtesy of OPI. I really like this collection, which is surprising because it is a little girlie. It is introducing Black Shatter, which is an awesome finish. I really can't pick a favorite from this collection, simply because I really do like them all!

The Royal Wedding

Ok, so I know I said that Fashion 24/7 was not longer, but you have got to be crazy if you thought I was just going to let today go by without one post about the Royal Wedding! Like most of the world, I was watching as HRH Prince William took Catherine as his wife. No, I didn’t stay up until 3AM my time, I recorded, and I for one thought the wedding was beautiful and I truly think they make a beautiful couple. Now, in the three hours it took before the actual ceremony was to begin (11AM London time) I began to notice a lot of very fashionable hats arriving at the Abby. And what would the Royal Wedding be without great hats. My favorite was Victoria Beckham’s while others were waiting to see what HM Queen Elizabeth II would be rockin’. I was definitely not disappointed by the hat fanfare. HRH Catherine looked stunning in her wedding gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Sarah also design the dress Kate wore as her evening gown. Make up was flawless (I will be posting "how to"). I have put together some photos of my favorite hats and fascinators for your viewing pleasure, as well as some other favorite photos from the wedding. Enjoy!

***This black and white photo, taken by Mario Testino, is my absolute favorite of the two***

April Is Child Abuse Awareness Month

April 1st kicked off Child Abuse Awareness Month. Different people are doing their part in spreading awareness. Now, you dont have to wait until April to begin spreading the word, you can do it all year long. Since getting back into polishing my nails, I did a nail design turn convo starter.

So the plan, someone admires my nails they want to know what the ribbon is for, thats when I tell them its for child abuse awareness and the convo begins. The plan is to create a different nail art weekly. I have another in mind that I will be posting on Beautifully Polished Up this up coming week. In the mean time, there are some fab fb pages dedicated to awareness, as well as my own blog Faces Of Angels. I know this is a fashion blog, but child abuse/neglect is NEVER a good look.

Glamour Covers

With a collective 14 movies coming out this year, Emma Stone, Ashley Greene and Freida Pinto are about to become the style world’s new obsessions. Matthias Vriens-McGrath photographed Emma in Los Angeles, Ashley in Baton Rouge, LA and Freida in Paris for Glamour’s May 2011 cover. The issue will be available digitally (iPad and Barnes & Noble Nook Color) and newsstands nationwide on April 5.

Fashion and Quotes

Emma Stone
Emma wears a D&G dress, Nina Basharova gold bangles with precious gems and Heike Grebenstein Fine Jewelry gold bangles on her cover. Inside the issue, Emma wears an eye-popping red Tory Burch cardigan, floral Erdem shorts, Heike Grebenstein Fine Jewelry bangles and Christian Louboutin shoes. She also wears a Viktor and Rolf dress, Flutter by Jill Golden bangles and Alexander Wang shoes. Additionally, she wears a white-hot Versace dress and Renee Lewis gold and diamond earrings. Emma also rocks it in a chic Helmut Lang jacket and shorts worn with a Janis by Janis Savitt antique silver crystal bracelet.

Emma Stone on the best advice her mother’s ever given her…
“She is the greatest person on earth. She always helps me deal with things as they happen instead of planning them all out ahead of time. But that’s one of 600 billion pieces of advice she’s given me. “

Emma Stone on what she looks for in a guy…
“Honestly, I cannot put a finger on it. One guy could do something that I would find deplorable, and [with] another guy I’d find it charming…. It depends on the person. The one thing that needs to be there is that indefinable spark of sorts. But I’m 22 years old…. I have no idea what I’m talking about. [Laughs.]

Emma Stone on the pressure to be thin in Hollywood…
“You’re a human being, you live once and life is wonderful, so eat the damn red velvet cupcake.”

Freida Pinto
Freida Pinto is featured on her cover wearing a bra top and shorts by Peter Som and Louis Vuitton Swarovski rhinestone and resin rings. Inside the issue, Freida is wearing a Tucker by Gaby Basora bustier and Lela Rose shorts. She is also seen in a Prabal Gurung dress along with a Chopard diamond and white gold bracelet. Additionally, she wears a camisole and pants by The Row and a House of Lavande diamante ring.

Freida Pinto on ethnicity in Hollywood…
“I think people are starting to become more color-blind in the industry. Of course, my Indian-ness cannot be ignored. At the same time, if I am being considered for a romantic comedy, I would like if [the script] didn’t try to inject as much ethnicity into the story as possible.”

Freida Pinto on filming in Tunisia when the uprising broke out….
“There was a civil war going on. People were burning down shops and malls; there was killing and bloodshed. I was stuck in this massive hotel with 354 rooms and only six guests. The lights kept shutting down, and there was a 5:00pm curfew. But I wasn’t there by myself: Dev [Patel, her Slumdog costar and current boyfriend] came down to see me. I was so glad I had company.”

Freida Pinto on relationships in Hollywood…
“When a doctor is performing an operation, his mind cannot be somewhere else. And it’s the same with actors. You have to commit yourself mind, body and soul to a project in order to do justice to it. And temptations are rife in this industry, which is why I think it’s important to know yourself before you try to deal with a relationship.”

Ashley Greene
On Ashley’s cover she wears a J.Crew cardigan and Nanette Lepore bikini top and bottom. Inside the issue, Ashley wears a floral D&G top with pink Louis Vuitton shorts. She also appears in a bright floral Marc by Marc Jacobs romper worn with a bracelet and rings by Louis Vuitton. Additionally, Ashley wears a flirty white Dolce & Gabbana dress with a James Colarusso silver necklace. She also dons a lace-up Haute Hippie dress, Dolce & Gabbana bra and Isabel Marant earrings and bracelets. Ashley plays it casual in a Ralph Lauren Collection blouse, tank, and shorts. This look is accessorized with a James Colarusso long gold necklace, Monique Péan rose gold and sapphire heart and Isabel Marant boots.

Ashley Greene on her career post-Twilight…
“It is difficult because people look at you as that character. I want to play a role of a 24-year-old woman, not 17-year-old girls. So I have picked a couple of films like Butter to show that. And it’s perfectly fine not to do anything for a year if I don’t find the right thing.”

Ashley Greene on how it all started at a modeling convention in New York…
“I’m a big believer in “everything happens for a reason.” I’m not saying it wasn’t hard. I lived off Lean Cuisine and had no furniture and shared a bedroom with a girl for a year. I ran up my credit card. But every time I thought, I’m going to fail, something happened that kept me here.”

Ashley Greene on how she avoids the pitfalls of the Hollywood party scene…
“I keep to the ground rules. I’m not going to get drunk at a bar. There are younger girls who look up to me. So I do my best not to stray too far.”
